The history:
In June 2005 a former cadet of 2367 (Banchory) Squadron from Aberdeen & North East Scotland ATC Wing,
stood on the highest point of the world. Di Gilbert, a professional mountaineering instructor,
was Expedition Leader for the 2005 Adventure Peaks North Ridge Everest Expedition.
Using supplementary oxygen from 7,800m this expedition, lasting 72 days, has to be
one of the toughest physical and mentally challenging climb of her career to date due
to its unique characteristics. Becoming so fond of one of her Russian Poisk Oxygen cylinders
(and probably slightly delusional) she paid $50.00 and decided to take it back home to Scotland.
Not quite sure what to do with it, it was finally decided that this would be given to Aberdeen
Wing in the form of a prize.

|
The concept of the Scottish Poisk was born.
In the true spirit of adventure and bearing in mind the history of the Poisk,
a challenge had to be devised which would not only physically & mentally challenge racers but also push them to their limits.
|
|
|
The challenge:
The Scottish Poisk is a biennial event and is a 2 day test of physical and mental skills,
endurance and most importantly determination. The Scottish Poisk is a continuous journey through mountain,
fell, moorland, forest and water and will be broken down into various stages.
|
The stages:
There could be a number of different stages on the Scottish Poisk.
These could vary from mountain/fell/road running, mountain biking, roped activities,
and water activities. All stages are timed except when speed will greatly increases
the real risk involved i.e. on rope activities.
All stages will have an element of navigation skills.
|
|
The location:
The formula remains the same with the only changing factor the location.
The general area (i.e. North West Highlands, Central Highlands) for each
Scottish Poisk will become known some 9 months before the event.
An Information Pack will be released on the website two (2) weeks before
the event providing the route information.
The Scottish Poisk 2010 will start in the West Highlands.
|
The dates:
|
The Scottish Poisk 2010 will be taking place on Friday 2nd – Sunday 4th July 2010.
|
The classes:
There will be 3 classes – all male (m), all female (f) and mixed (x).
|
The winner:
The winning team from each class will be fastest team taking into account
any time penalties incurred during the race. However, the overall fastest
team will be the winners of the actual
Scottish Poisk for 24 months only or until the Scottish Poisk 2012.
